Our Roots
Our Sunrise Bakery journey began when Ray and Helen Sellars started baking in Mowbray in 1966, laying the foundation for a family bakery rooted in the Tasmanian community.
The Rocherlea factory was built in 1978 and became our main production hub. Today, we remain proudly family-owned and locally cherished.
Our Journey
The baton passed to Paul Sellars as Managing Director in 2009, continuing the family-led stewardship that has kept Sunrise a constant in Tasmanian baking for generations.

Sunrise Bakery marked its 60th birthday in February with a warm, community-focused celebration at the Boathouse Function Venue. The evening brought together team members past and present, loyal customers, suppliers and local partners for a toast to six decades of Tasmanian bakery heritage, a day that honoured the family-owned roots that began in a Mowbray shopfront in 1966.
The night celebrated Sunrise’s commitment to Tasmanian-made quality and local sourcing, with guests sharing stories, recalling favourites and looking ahead to continued partnerships with restaurants, schools, clubs and retailers across the state. It was a fitting tribute to a bakery that has grown hand-in-hand with Tasmania, fostering community, tradition and dependable, neighbourly service.
